Fearing Arrest – Visits to the UK by IDF Officers Canceled

Once again, IDF officers are victimized by the perversion of justice of the European community, this time in Britain. A delegation of officers which was supposed to travel to the UK last week was canceled after diplomatic officials were unable to determine with absolute certainty that they would not be arrested after landing.

Recently, opposition leader Tzipi Livni, who served as foreign minister during Operation Cast Lead, was compelled to cancel her state visit after a court in London issued an arrest warrant for her, as was reported by YWN-Israel.

Once again, diplomatic officials in Jerusalem responded harshly, seeking to label IDF officers as war criminals, and despite recent assurances from high-level UK diplomats following the Livni affair, Israel is now addressing a repeat of the same distasteful and unacceptable situation.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Danny Ayalon warned that the inability of Israeli officials to travel to Britain would negatively impact the good relations that exist between the countries today.

In a related matter, Britain’s Attorney General, Baroness Patricia Janet Scotland is visiting Jerusalem and she is planning to meet with Justice Minister Prof. Yaakov Neeman. They will discuss the need to amend British law to prevent such occurrences from occurring in the future.
