Livni Rejects Coalition Offer – Slams Netanyahu’s Politics

5:50PM IL: Kadima leader Tzipi Livni announced in a press conference a short time ago that her party is not going to take the offer to join the coalition government, rejecting Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s call to join the coalition.

The opposition leader slammed the prime minister’s politics and policies, indicating her party will remain as the leader of the opposition.

Earlier in the day, Livni presented faction members with the details surrounding Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s offer for the opposition leader to enter the coalition government and receive a number of cabinet posts. A number of senior party officials expressed their objections, including Meir Sheetrit, Ruchama Avraham, and Yaakov Edri. They explained they prefer to remain in opposition, not at all in favor in taking the prime minister up on his offer.

Also addressing the forum was the party’s number two man, Shaul Mofaz, who explained to the media that today, he says what he said a number of days ago regarding his party leader, “that he is arrogant and arrogance is not replacement for leadership”. He condemned the prime minister’s effort to break Kadima apart, explaining that while he believes in unity, not at any price and that is the case here. Mofaz believes that today, eight months as opposition leader, the party has gained momentum and has an expanded support base for the party’s principals.

Also coming out publicly against the offer was Likud Minister of Improvement of Government Services, Michael Eitan, who called the move bad for the coalition and bad for democracy.
