Tri-State Area Braces for Weekend Snow Storm

The National Weather Service says much of the Tri-State area could receive a blanket of snow, along with heavy winds, over the weekend.

AccuWeather says New York City could get 3-6 inches of snow and 6-12 inches may fall in Central New Jersey, the Jersey Shore, and Eastern Long Island.

However, the exact track of the winter storm system is still uncertain. A difference of only 100 miles will have a significant impact on the weather across the region.

A glancing blow with less snow and lighter winds remains a possibility for the region.

A winter storm watch is in effect from Shabbos morning through Sunday morning.

And for residents of Nassau and Suffolk on Long Island, a Blizzard Watch is in effect until 11 a.m. on Sunday. This means there’s a chance for snow and strong winds to reduce visibility, lead to whiteout conditions and make travel very dangerous.

CBS 2HD’s meteorologist Megan Glaros says: For residents of Nassau and Suffolk on Long Island, a Blizzard Watch is in effect until 11 a.m. on Sunday. This means there’s a chance for snow and strong winds to reduce visibility, lead to whiteout conditions and make travel very dangerous.

“This is the way it breaks down. We could see as much as 6-12 inches of total snowfall accumulation on parts of Long Island, predominantly Suffolk and Nassau County. You get down to the Jersey Shore, you could see as much as 6-12 inches there too, plus compound that the fact that wind gusts could be in excess of 50 mph near the coast,” Glaros said. “That’s why we’ve got the Blizzard Watch for the eastern half of Long Island.”

Now what about New York City?

“The City, all five boroughs, back to parts of northern New Jersey and the Lower Hudson Valley, there could be as much as 5-10 inches,” Glaros said.
